Description :
La Monnaie de Paris closes this series, begun in 2007, with two modern artists recognized as important milestones: Vasily Kandinsky, founder of abstract art, thanks to his treatises on abstraction, and Andy Warhol, undisputed master of Pop Art. Vassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) developed a new aesthetic. With Franz Marc, he founded the Der Blaue Reiter group, which gave rise to Fauvism in France. He later taught at the Bauhaus until its closure in 1933.
Opposite: representation of Composition 8, a work by Kandinsky. Inscriptions: the initials "RF", Kandinsky's signature, the name of the painting and its date, 1923.
Reverse: on the right-hand segment, a portrait of Vassily Kandinsky with his signature and the dates 1866-1944. Inscription: Republican motto "liberté, égalité, fraternité" and face value 500 euro or 100 euro. On the left-hand segment, two paintbrushes draw blotches of paint and the year "2011" surrounded by two "différents".
