Description :
A new series celebrating French heritage over the next five years, dedicated to boats: "Great French ships.
Built in Rochefort in the 18th century, the Hermione is a French frigate that took General La Fayette to the United States to join the insurgents in 1780. A replica, currently under construction, is due to be launched in 2012 to repeat this historic voyage.
Face: L'Hermione is depicted on the face with all her sails inflated on a stormy sea. This representation is topped by a frieze of ropes. King Louis XVI's coat of arms is reproduced under the boat's hull.
Reverse: a composition common to sailboats, found on all five pieces. The helm and jibs can be seen. The Hermione's bow is repeated on the headsail. Face value 50 euro or 10 euro. In the middle of the coin, the words "les grands navires français" ("the great French ships") appear.
