Launched in 1998, this year's "Europa" series puts the spotlight on Franco-German friendship, and celebrates 20 years since the creation of Eurocorps.
Created in 1992 from a Franco-German initiative, Eurocorps lays the foundations for a European corps in which other members of the European Union can participate. The aim is to strengthen European military cooperation. To date, Belgium, Spain and Luxembourg have joined the Eurocorps.
Face: a woman's face, hair flowing in the wind, symbolizing Europe, with the inscription "EUROPA". Stars scattered in the effigy's hair, unfurled standards and, in the caption, twelve circles featuring the euro symbol "?", evoke the twelve founding countries of the euro zone. In the foreground, the vintage "2012" is surrounded by two different letters.
Reverse: the reverse shows President François Mitterrand and Chancellor Helmut Kohl at Verdun. In the background, a map of Europe in the style of the Eurocorps coat of arms, the words "20th anniversary of Eurocorps", the face value 1,000 EURO, 500 EURO, 200 EURO, 50 EURO or 5 EURO, and the words République Française.
