Greece series in an official BU 2025 boxed set, including the 8 standard €1c to €2 coins in the 2025 vintage.
The official 2025 Greece annual boxed set includes all eight euro coins, in denominations from 1 cent to 2 euros, minted in BU (Brillant Universel) quality. The Greek coins feature eight unique designs on the national side, accompanied by the year of issue, the face value and the twelve stars of the European Union. They are one of the few coins in the euro zone, along with those of Austria, to display the face value on both sides.
The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins illustrate Greece's naval history, with a modern trireme dating from the time of Athenian democracy in the 5th century BC J.-C., a corvette representative of the boats used during the Greek War of Independence from 1821 to 1827, and a modern oil tanker, symbolizing the innovative spirit of the Greek merchant navy. The 10, 20 and 50 cent coins pay tribute to great figures in Greek history: Rigas Velestinlis Féréos (1757-1798), precursor and major player in the Greek Enlightenment, visionary and herald of the liberation of the Balkans; Ioannis Capodistrias (1776-1831), first governor of independent Greece between 1830 and 1831; and Elefthérios Venizélos (1864-1936), renowned diplomat and reformer who greatly contributed to the modernization of the Greek state.
The 1 euro coin features the owl from an ancient Athenian 4-drachma coin dating from the 5th century BC J.-C., while the 2 euro coin illustrates a mythological scene taken from a Spartan mosaic from the IIIᵉ century AD J.-C., depicting the abduction of Europa by Zeus metamorphosed into a bull, in reference to the legendary figure who gave his name to the European continent.
