The inscription “SAN FRANCESCO D’ASSISI 1226-2026,” located in the upper part, commemorates both the year of his death and the year of the commemorative issue. The lower part features the monogram “RI,” representing the Italian Republic, as well as the letter “R,” the mark of the Rome Mint.
