Theme: €2 commemorative to the Treaty of Rome Austria 2007
Circulation : 9,000,000
Description: On March 25, 2007, all European Union countries using the euro issued a €2 commemorative coin to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.
The center of the coin depicts the treaty signed by the six founding member states, against a background evoking the paving, designed by Michelangelo, of Rome's Piazza del Campidoglio, where the treaty was signed on March 25, 1957. The translation of the word EUROPE appears above the book. The translation of the words TREATY OF ROME 50 YEARS is inscribed above the drawing. The year 2007 and the name of the issuing country appear below the design. The twelve stars of the European flag surround the design on the coin's outer ring.
An exception is Luxembourg, where the law requires the portrait of the Grand Duke to appear on all coins, so it will appear as a watermark on the lower left-hand side of the coin. In the Netherlands, a similar law requiring the Head of State (King or Queen) to appear on all coins has been amended to take part in this commemoration, but this amendment is only valid for this particular issue.
