San Marino celebrates the art of Antonio Canova on the occasion of the two hundred years since the death of the Venetian painter and sculptor. The 2 euro commemorative coin features on the reverse the relief image of the sculpture of the goddess Ebe, a work Canova created between 1796 and 1817 in 4 copies now held in Berlin, St. Petersburg, Chatsworth and Forl ì. It was the last choice for the Sammarina piece. Ebe's sculptures, initially much criticized for Canova's stylistic choices, which combined bronze and marble details and, especially in the first two works, covered the candied white marble with a pink patina, are today considered among the Le plus in neoclassicalism works.
