The National and University Library of Ljubljana, founded in 1774, is a leading cultural and academic institution in Slovenia. Located in the heart of the capital, it plays a dual role: that of a national library, preserving and disseminating Slovenia's written heritage, and that of a university library, supporting the research and studies of students and teachers at the University of Ljubljana. Designed by architect Jože Plečnik, its emblematic building, with its blend of traditional and modern architecture, is a national symbol. The central part of the coin celebrates the 250ᵉ anniversary of Ljubljana's National and University Library, Slovenia's most prestigious, fulfilling both national and university library roles. It features the name of the issuing country, "Slovenija", the year of issue, "2024", and the commemorative inscription: "Narodna in univerzitetna knjižnica 1774".
