Coincard Flemish 2.50 Euro Belgium 2024 - Bee

The 2½ euro coin issued in Belgium celebrates bees, essential for pollination and biodiversity. Faced with the significant reduction in bee populations, exacerbated by intensive agriculture, urbanization and the excessive use of pesticides, this coin symbolizes awareness and conservation efforts. In recognition of their vital role, the UN has proclaimed May 20 as World Bee Day, and initiatives such as "En mai, tonte à l'arrêt" encourage the growth of bee-friendly plants in Belgium.

The coin features a neat aesthetic with a stylized bee and cherry blossom on the obverse, and a background depicting the map of Belgium composed of bee cells, which becomes more visible depending on the viewing angle. The reverse features the traditional elements, including the face value and map of Europe, framed by the trilingual inscription BELGIË-BELGIQUE-BELGIEN. This issue aims to educate and remind us of the urgent need to protect bees to safeguard our food security and our environment.
