BE Vatican 2023 boxed set

This set includes 1 cent to 2 € coins for the year 2023, featuring the coat of arms of Pope Francis I (shield) + a 20 € silver coin on the theme of the Magi.

The series consists of 8 coins with the same technical specifications on the reverse for all countries participating in the single European currency. The obverse features the coat of arms of Pope Francis, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, the inscription "Vatican City" and twelve stars. The series is available in two versions: the first with the 20 euro silver coin, and the second with the 50 euro gold coin. On the reverse of the 20 euro silver coin, artist Orietta Rossi depicts the Magi riding two horses and a camel as they follow the comet star. Pope Francis has repeatedly spoken of the importance of the role of the Magi. In his homily at the end of the 55th Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2022, the Pope said, "Traditionally, the Magi are represented with colorful robes that represent different peoples. In them, we can see reflected our own differences, our different Christian traditions and experiences, but also our unity. The 50 euro gold coin is dedicated to the theme of immigration. Artist Gabriele di Maulo creates a striking image of a man saving a young man from drowning. Next to them, in the waves, is a now empty boat, and behind them we see the African and European continents. Pope Francis frequently speaks out on issues concerning illegal immigration, urging Europe not to close its ports and borders.
