Description

Set BE Vatican 2024

The collection comprises eight coins, whose reverse features the same technical characteristics for all countries using the single European currency. The obverse of each coin features the coat of arms of Pope Francis, the Sovereign of the Vatican City State, accompanied by the inscription "Vatican City" and twelve stars.

The 20 euro silver coin, created by the Vatican Mint, is dedicated to the allegory of backbiting, a subject frequently raised by Pope Francis, notably in his speeches on September 2, 2013 and at the Synod of 2023. These interventions emphasize that backbiting is, to a certain extent, a form of spiritual murder and a source of sadness for the Holy Spirit. Marianna Frisone's work illustrates this theme by featuring two figures in the center of the piece: a woman whispering in a man's ear, while a little angel on the left side, with her finger on her lips, urges silence and caution in the use of words.

On the reverse, the work symbolizes the themes of war and peace. Barbed wire, evoking war and suffering, gradually transforms into an olive branch, symbolizing peace and rebirth. On the left, behind the barbed wire, a man with a rifle stands out against a background of smoke and ruins. On the right, in the foreground, a father holding his little daughter by the hand, a flower in his hand, observes two birds rising into the sky, behind the olive branch, representing peace.
