In 2025, the Principality of Monaco is putting into circulation a commemorative 2 euro coin minted in Belle Épreuve quality, dedicated to the Marquisat des Baux. The Marquisat des Baux, located in Provence, represented a powerful symbol of influence and recognition for the Principality, marking its integration into the diplomatic and territorial game of the time. Although the French Revolution put an end to the administrative existence of this marquisate, the memory of this alliance remains deeply rooted in Monegasque tradition. The title of Marquis des Baux has thus become an honorary inheritance passed on to each heir to the throne. Today, it is held by Prince Jacques, son of Sovereign Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène, ensuring the continuity of a custom that goes back more than three centuries.
