Universal Brilliant Gift Set BU Malta 2024
This annual boxed set from Malta for 2024 includes all eight euro denominations, plus a commemorative 2 euro coin dedicated to the Citadel of Gozo, all minted in Brillant Universel (BU) quality.
-
Maltese coins: They feature three distinct designs on the national side, accompanied by the country's name "MALTA", the year of issue, and the twelve stars of the European Union.
-
1, 2 and 5 centime coins: These feature a design representing the altar of the Mnajdra megalithic temple, built around 3,600 B.C. J.-C. on a hill overlooking the sea.
-
10, 20 and 50 centime coins: These display the Maltese coat of arms, comprising a shield with a heraldic representation of the national flag, surmounted by a mural crown symbolizing Malta's fortifications and status as a city. The shield is flanked by an olive branch on the left and a palm leaf on the right, forming a wreath of peace bound at its base by a ribbon with the inscription "Repubblika ta' Malta" (Republic of Malta).
-
1 and 2 euro coins: These feature the emblem of the Sovereign Order of Malta. During the reign of the Order (1530-1798), the eight-pointed cross became the symbol of the island, now known as the Maltese Cross.
-
-
2 euro commemorative coin dedicated to the Citadel of Gozo: On the central part of the coin, a drawing illustrates the Citadel of Gozo perched on the heights of the island of Gozo, in the Maltese archipelago. This complex of fortifications, overlooking the town of Ir-Rabat, served as a fortified refuge from barbarian and Ottoman attacks until the 17th century. The legend "Cittadella Gozo" appears at the top, while at the bottom are the name of the issuing country, the year "2024", and the initials of the engraving artist.
In this way, the annual Malta 2024 boxed set brings together both current circulation coins and a commemorative coin marking the island's historical and cultural heritage.
